10 Months

Kennedy turned 10 Months old this past week (September 16, 2010). 

She is crawling around, talking (baba, dadas, and I swear she is saying doggi when she looks at Cody), she is starting on finger foods but really hasn't grasped it too much yet. 

She is finally in size 3 diapers, and in her 6-9 month, and 6-12 month clothing.  It is exciting to finally see some chubs and rolls on her. 

I have already started to plan her first birthday party.  I am just hoping people can come since it is in November and close to Thanksgiving.  We never really got a chance to have a "come meet Kennedy" party once she was born, so I am hoping her first birthday will be fun and can substitute for that. 

Well, for now, that's it.  I will have an update as to what we (i.e. she) has been up to the first half of this month.

Change

She changes every day.  She crawls around after the toys and items she wants, she lights up when she see things that interest her (and that she wants), and she is pulling to stand on certain things (mostly pulling on my head to stand on me or the like).  But every day I just cannot believe the changes I continue to see in her.  She has gone from such a tiny little girl....

to this bright eyed, smiley, inquisitive (albeit still little for her age) girl....

2,333...[part two]

I know this is beyond late, the part one was posted two posts ago, but I figured I did at least need to finish with a few pictures from Montana itself, as that was the ultimate goal of our road trip.  So on we go.

On July 20, 2010 we got up and headed on to Butte, Montana. Why Butte you might ask? Well, that is where my grandfather grew up, and now currently lives again (well for the summer time that is).  It was important to me that Kennedy got to meet her Great Grandpa while she was still little.  I had to have the pictures of her with my grandpa. 

We ended up being in Montana for Evel Knieval Days again, yes, you read that right, Evel Knieval Days. Evel Knieval was born and raised in Butte, and therefore they celebrate his life and stupidity every single year by having stalls with crap for sale, stunts being performed and drunken debauchery by the event goers.

 While there Kennedy also fell absolutely in love with her cousin Sidney.  They were the cutest things when together and Sidney can make Kennedy laugh like no one else.

The sites around Butte are beautiful, it is a mining town so they're not the "norm" I guess you could say for some Californians, but still beautiful in their own way.  

There is the Berkeley Pit, which is a big open copper mine pit full of incredibly toxic water.  Sounds wonderful huh?

We do a lot of walking when we are with my Grandpa.  So we get to take pictures of the old railroad tracks/trail, and the Gallows Frames.  The bottom black and white one is one Austin took on our previous trip, but I love it, so I am sharing it again anyways.

While it was great to be there and see my grandpa, Evel Knieval Days is just a lot to deal with. It was agreed upon by all (including my grandpa) that we would not be visiting during that time again, and in fact (fingers are crossed) grandpa may be coming out to California during that time next year!!

It was a great trip, while there Kennedy learned how to wave and is working on crawling. She is currently face planting and trying to scoot herself forward that way, unfortunately she usually ends up scooting herself backwards essentially not getting to where she would like to go, and then pisses herself off. While we find it amusing and laugh, it is sometimes sad to see the frustration in her face.



Our summer trips definitely weren't and and aren't yet over (well for Kennedy they are as she'll be hanging with the grandparents). Austin and I have two more weddings (at least) to go to, and possibly one more in New Mexico if we can swing it. We'll be heading to San Diego for Siler's wedding (Austin's long time best friend and best man from our wedding) (I will post a few pics from this soon as it was a week ago now!) and to Napa for our friend Nick and Katie's wedding.

Growing up

I know that it is what kids do, they grow up.  They discover new things, learn new things, and well just keep on going and growing up.  They really do just grow up so fast. 

This weekend was one of a few this last month or two where we haven't had anything to do, and it was so nice.  So, we just hung out at home, ran out for an errand or two, but that was about it.  It was so nice to relax and play with Kennedy.  But as this post indicates, it was just amazing to watch her this weekend, she has grown into her own little person for sure.  She has her own ideas of what she wants to do, where she wants to go, and what she wants to play with.  She is so inquisitive, always looking to see what made that sound, where the dog went and what in the world mom or dad are doing.

This weekend she:

• started to stand on her own holding onto a toy.  (she isn't 100% stable and will topple if she puts her weight to one side or the other, but she does it)

• she is still just creeping, but a little bit more so (and she gets herself over to Cody, she LOVES him)

• she said daddy (it was pretty darn clear to me) and then went on to say Da one more time.  No matter how many times we tried to get her to do it again she didn't.

• She feeds herself her own foods (only ones she likes though) toast was a big no no for her, but her biter biscuits or Gerber teething cookies she's all about.  She tries with all her might to feed herself with her spoon but it mostly just ends up on her forehead or cheeks, but we let her try anyways as that is half the fun!

Kennedy also enjoys music, she will dance if she hears it, and when Austin pulls out the guitar she will just sit and watch him play (and try and play a bit herself).

But really, she's just the cutest thing ever and we love to watch her grow and explore.

9 months!

Kennedy turned 9 months old yesterday and I still cannot believe it.

Our printer is not hooked up at home so I could not take the obligatory "9 month" pics, but we did ahve a bit of fun with food so I figure those pics should suffice :)

She had her 9 month check up as well, here are her stats:
Weight: 15lbs 4oz - 5% (whee!)
Length: 26in - 10%
Head Circumfrence: 17" - 25% (our girl has a big noggin apparently)

She is growing like crazy and is FINALLY in her 6-9 month clothing, and some 6-12 month clothing! She is also now wearing shoes :)

She is reaching some new milestones, she can sit and play on her own, is starting to scoot/creep a long and I have a feeling will be full fledged crawling very very soon.

She has started on her separation anxiety/ stranger anxiety a bit.  If she is doing something with me and new people (even those she knows) walk in all of a sudden it startles her a bit at first, but then she gets over it.  If I walk into a part of the room where she can't see me she gets upset until I come back into her line of sight.  But it is part of her milestones which she must reach, and thankfully it is (hopefully) only a phase. 

This girl still loves her food (as evidenced by the pictures above) and is now starting on some finger foods, we'll see how well that goes, as for now it just ends up everywhere (which honestly is part of the fun and learning!)

I just can't believe how far she's come. 

9 months ago she was this little 3lb 5oz bundle of joy.....

and today she is this smiling, happy little girl!

I just love her more and more every day!

miles that is.  That is how many miles we drove this last month on our vacation to Montana.

(This is probably going to be a very picture heavy post (as per usual) so I will split it up into two or three.)

We left July 16, 2010 and headed up to Cameron Park, CA where my Aunt and Uncle live.

From there we left on July 17, 2010 and headed to Elko, Nevada, for a total of 407 miles the first day,quite a drive through nothing, well there were a few towns and quite the polite gang member in Lovelock along the way, but really nothing.  (he had tear drops tattooed on his face, so I was assuming a gang member?)

Kennedy got to go swimming while we were in Elko, and we laughed as people tried posing for pics with the Harley's in the parking lot of the hotel.  Other than that, we called it a night and got ready for the next day of driving.

YAY for being out of the car!

On July 18, 2010 we headed straight through Idaho to Jackson, Wyoming (another 400+ mile trip).   What a beautiful town, and man what a beautiful area.  Traveling through the Tetons is just amazing!

  

  

On July  19, 2010 we got up and headed out of Jackson through Grand Teton National Park and into Yellowstone National Park.  We only traveled about 150 miles that day but we wanted to take the time to see everything, so I think it was likely our longest travel day of all.

On the way through I looked over and there was a mama bear and two cubs on the side of the road.  By the time Austin and I could stop they had started to move away, I am sure my family got much better pics as they were behind us.

Of course we got stopped in a long line of road construction traffic just outside of Yellowstone park.

So we had to stop at the last rest area before heading into Yellowstone.

This is what you see as you enter, there are signs EVERYWHERE about not disturbing the animals, it being bear country, buffalo country, moose country, whatever is out there.

YET, crap like this continues to happen... A woman was attacked by a buffalo a couple of days after we were there in the parking lot near Old Faithful.  Some idiot didn't care and provoked the buffalo.

So now on to our drive through Yellowstone. We started at the south entrance and drove around to Old Faithful, then up through Mammoth Hot Springs and out the North Entrance into Gardiner, MT.

Along the way we say plenty of animals, and the wonderful marvel that is Old Faithful.

However, once we got to Old Faithful for the predicted 6:23 p.m. time, we waited and waited, as no one can really get mother nature on schedule :)

Once it was done we ran to the car as the rain was about to start, and headed out.  But thanks to the rain we got to see this beauty...

And then on our way out of course we saw more animals and some other beautiful sights...
