Thank you to everyone who supported us in our March for Babies!!

We did it! We raised $2,645, and we could not be more thrilled!!

Thank you to everyone who supported us in our cause, and for supporting Kennedy!

It was inspiring to see all of the children running around, to hear stories of success, and it was extremely sad to hear stories of loss.  My heart breaks for those who were walking for a loss.  It is our hope that through the March of Dimes more babies will be able to be born healthy and have a chance at a long and happy life.

Finally, thank you to our team!! It was so so wonderful to have everyone there to walk with us! I cannot wait to get our team pic from March of Dimes :)

For now, here are some of the pics that we (mostly my mother) took along the way! (warning there are a ton, so I will also post the link to the album as well)

After the walk we had a BBQ at our place.  It was so beautiful out and everyone got to come and hang out.  The dogs got to all hang out as well.

Bailey REALLY wanted in the house

Aaron finally got to hold Kennedy!

She was SO work out that she kept pulling her blanket and lovie up into her face.  Long day.

And here is the link to the March for Babies album, I am sure i'll have more to add at some point.

Talking....

Kennedy started talking to her toys awhile ago, but she really only seemed to "say" something when she really had something to "say".  Well starting this weekend she just talks and talks, and LOVES to stick her tongue out.  I love the sound, it makes me smile just listening to her.

From Kennedy Videos
(I am still trying to get my videos to link properly, but I think if you click on the pic it will take you to the video in my picasa albums.)

It has gotten to the point now that every morning she talks and talks and talks while sitting in her bouncer and I have my morning coffee.  She also "yells" at me if I look away from her to look at something else.  She is also loving her mobile now and is talking to her animals like it is going out of style.  I am SURE there will be more videos to come.  I need to post one of her blowing her raspberries too.

It is so fun and amazing to watch her grow into this little person with such a big personality.

March for Babies

Some of you know that we signed up to participate in the March for Babies 2010 through the March of Dimes!!  Our walk is this Saturday April 24, 2010.

Our team is Team Kennedy Anne - naturally, as she is the reason we have wanted to do this!  Having a premature baby has opened our eyes to the many challenges premature babies face everyday.

Our story is posted to the right under pages - The Story of Kennedy's Arrival - it is a bit of a mess because it was typed out in an e-mail to family and friends after her arrival and I have yet to edit it (which I should get to doing).

We have been lucky in that Kennedy did not have any major health issues in the nicu (she was considered mostly a feeder/grower), and to date has remained healthy, and is growing strong!  We can only hope that this continues, however we are aware of the fact that as a preemie there could be issues.  Just cross your fingers that she remains healthy and strong.

Please visit our team page,( March for Babies - Team Kennedy Anne ) we would love to have our family and friends there to support us in this walk, however if you cannot be there, any sponsorship of our walk and support of the March of Dimes goal would be greatly appreciated!!

Here is a short picture trip of our time in the nicu....

The joys of cereal...

We got the green light for cereal at her 4 month appointment, but had to wait for her to start being "regular" again.  I personally wanted to wait for her to get past 5 months due to her actual vs. adjusted age.  I just didn't feel that she was ready at 4 months actual.

Well, we went ahead and tried cereal on Sunday, and it was a hit!  Can't wait until we can start on other solids, but for now we are going to get her used to the cereal.

A trip to Colorado....

We just got back from visiting family in Colorado.  The original intention of the trip was to go out to see Austin's grandmother and grandfather, as Grandma Evelyn was not doing well.  It was extremely important to us that Kennedy get to meet her Great Grandma Evelyn.  We were set to fly out Saturday, April 10 at 7am.  On April 9, 2010, Friday morning at 10:00 a.m., we got the phone call that Grandma Evelyn had passed away that morning.  We were heartbroken, literally missing her by about 20 hours.  So, instead of the happy and exciting trip we had been planning it changed into a trip to say goodbye to the Great Grandma which Kennedy never got to meet.

The memorial service was held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in Centennial, Colorado.  Evelyn Louella Hon was 85 years old, and had lived a long and, I would call it, happy life.  She was married to a wonderful man, Paul, had two sons, William and James, two grandchildren, Austin and Jennifer, and the joy of having 4 great-grandchildren, Brennan, Reeve, Gavin and now Kennedy.  She loved everyone so much, and had the biggest heart.  She always made me feel like I belonged in that family just as much as the others, and she truly was a grandmother to me as well.   We will forever miss her.

While we were there though, Kennedy did get to meet several family members for the first time.  Her Uncle TJ, cousins Brennan, Reeve and Gavin, as well as her Grandpa Bill and Great-Grandpa Paul, and of course she got to see her Auntie Jen again.  (In addition she also got to meet Austin's Great Uncle William, Great Uncle George and Great Aunt Margaret - so I guess that makes them her Great Great Uncles and Aunt?)  It was crazy to sit there at night and look around the room and realize that in one room alone there were 4 generations sitting around and talking (well Kennedy was listening most of the time if not sleeping, the boys did put in their two cents here and there :-) )

I am going to get side-tracked here - a little history of what we learned -
Austin and I learned so much about his family history.  The Hon side of the family descends from the MacLeods of Scotland, and Grandma Evelyns family is along the Stuart line - and goes back to the Queen Mary of Scots. We also got to hear the stories of the battles that everyone was in during WWII as they were all in one branch of another of the military (George and Paul were in the Navy, William in the Army (he retired as a Colonel and worked at the Pentagon for a number of years) and Art was in the Marines).  I think their stories and history would make for another blog post - but this has all sparked mine and Austins interests even more in doing a family tree and looking further into our families' histories'.

Okay, so back to the trip....

Kennedy also got to experience her first airplane ride!  She did amazing during both legs of the trip, sleeping the entire way there from take off to landing, and almost the entire way back falling asleep about 10-20 minutes after take off and sleeping all the way through the landing and picking up our bags! We were truly surprised and so happy that the trip went well for her!  We did realize that traveling with a baby is not the easiest thing, but we are lucky she is a fairly easy baby, goes with the flow and doesn't fuss to to much.  I did feel like I had to pack her entire room for the trip though.  Man do babies go through a lot of stuff!

Okay, so that is what I have for now... here are some pics :)

And then just because we thought it was awesome - a drive thru liquor store! Of course we had to go through and get something.

All and all it was a nice trip to see family.  We wish it had been on better terms and that ultimately it was for a different reason.

We love you Grandma Evelyn!
