And now we have entered teething...

hell.  The poor girl has been absolutely miserable for the past few days.  If she isn't screaming from the pain, and fighting eating from the pain, she is passed out because of the teething tablets and occasional dosages of tylenol have kicked in.  I feel so bad for her.  I honestly wish there was something more that we could do.

Needless to say this bout of teething has out her sleeping habits and schedule out of wack.  She went from either sleeping through the night or getting up for the first time at 4-4:30, to now getting up around 12 and again sometime between 3 and 4:30.  She just isn't eating her normal amounts during the day because of her teething.

She has taken to chewing on her hands though to help with the problem, and often ends up gagging herself (which you'd think after one time of doing it she'd stop, but nope, she keeps on doing it over and over and over again).

I hope for her sake (and well partially mine and Austin's) that this teething pain goes away soon.  We want our happy baby back.  (Well she is still a fairly happy baby after she's had a good nap and the teething tablets have kicked in)

See she sure enjoys those fingers!

After a long rough day, she looks so worn out and tired.
Poor baby :(

Waking up....

There are certain things about Kennedy that I can pinpoint as being exactly like me or exactly like her dad.  Well, waking up is one of those things where she is exactly like me.  It takes her time to wake up, and she doesn't like to be bugged a bunch right away.

It is a slow process of me going in, seeing she's awake... (sorry the pic is blurry, I was trying not to use flash on her)

unwrapping her until she is ready to be picked up...

And then she likes to cuddle and burry her face in you until she is really ready to wake up. Part of this also includes sleepy looks, and sometimes dirty looks too if you disturb her waking process...

The Dirty Look

We absolutely love her mornings when she is cuddly like this.

Oh, the plus, she slept through the night! She went down on Friday night at 7:30 and woke up at 6:30, then went back down again after eating for another hour, until the above picture barage started.

A message from the President and First Lady...

When I found out that you could get a message sent to your little one from the President of course I being a political person jumped at the chance.  I thought it would be a neat thing for Kennedy to have later in life.

We got ours today!!

in case you can't read it it says "Welcome to the World! Your arrival is cause for great celebration for your proud family.  We wish you a long and happy life filled with chances to learn, ideas to explore, people to love, and dreams to fulfill.  Sincerely, (signed) Barack Obama - Michelle Obama

When we told Kennedy she got mail from the President, her first response was who??

Then when we told her, it is the President peanut!! She went, "oh, the President" - like she really had a clue who we were talking about...

Of course I have now framed the card and it will hang on her wall for a bit before it goes in a book for her later on.

4 months old!!!

Our little peanut is 4 months old today!!

She had her 4 month appointment yesterday.  She weighed 9lb 14.5oz and 22 inches long!  This means she is officially on the growth chart for her actual age! (granted it is 1-3%, but she is on there!)  For her adjusted age (2.5 months) she is in the 25% for weight and length and 50% for head circumfrence! (she has a big noggin like her mom).

She wasn't diggin' this so much.  Too early for her.

Cody wanted to give her a birthday kiss

She has the cutest lil smile

Have a good day!!

(and Happy Birthday Megan!!!)

4 months ago today...

We were sitting in Labor and Delivery at Alta Bates Medical Center in Berkeley waiting, and waiting and waiting.  In the morning all we knew was that we would be there until Kennedy arrived, whether that was in a week or 4.  It all came down to what my test results continued to come back as.

4 months ago today, on November 14, 2009, I was told to expect the arrival of my daughter within a few days.  My labs had come back elevated, to the point where they had to induce me.  It was at this point I lost it and started crying.  It was at this point I worried about what this would mean for Kennedy.  It was at this point that I also realized it was the most pregnant I would ever be.  I wouldn't get to endure the last 8 weeks of the 3rd trimester.  I wouldn't get so huge that I was uncomfortable and begging for her to come at any time.

It was at this point that I realized I wasn't going to get to go home with my daughter, as I always dreamed it would be.

It was at this point that our lives were now going to change for forever.

It was at this point that I looked at Austin, told him to take one last picture of my pregnant belly.

Two days later our little girl would be born into this world.

Lazy Sundays

Well partially Lazy, Kennedy and I went out with my mom, and Austin played soccer, then we had a Lazy Sunday, that looked a little something like this....

Who does she look like?

At different times I've thought Kennedy looks like Austin, and then like myself.  I try and compare her to baby pictures a lot - so it seems.  Lately I see a certain baby picture of mine, and compare it to one I took of her, and I see me.  When she was younger I thought she looked just like Austin.

What do you think?

Steph:

Austin:  (sorry Jen, you had to be in this pic too)
I didn't have a good younger one of Austin scanned, bummer!

I think she'll change again to look like the other, so I am sure there will be other posts like this.

First two days of work =

success!

Kennedy has done amazingly well in the office.  She seems to even nap better there than at home too, seems weird to me, but I'll take it!  I was afraid I wouldn't be able to give her the attention that she needs while still being able to work and focus on my work.  I am finding that the balance so far is going just fine.  I am able to get a good amount of work in while she is napping.  While she is awake we walk around the office, play on the floor a bit, or she is even completely content just sitting in my lap and watching the computer screen or a toy on the desk.

I know that as she gets older, and more mobile things will change, so we will constantly be tweaking our routine, etc.  But for now it is working.

I am also extremely lucky that I have friends and co-workers who are willing to help me out when I need to be at a meeting or in court.  (Thank you Vim and Lisa!)  I will likely be looking into a babysitter at some point so that I have someone to call and schedule on days when Lisa cannot watch her in the office.  I also can't continue to infringe upon my friends kindness either in offering to watch Kennedy either, I am one to think that there is a limit to how much you can ask, and I don't want to go beyond that limit.

So, here are a few pics of her in the office, and I find it amusing that one shelf in my bookcase has now become a baby shelf - and honestly, I have a feeling more of the shelves will be taken over by Kennedy as my books get the boot.

First day and all smiles!

Taking a snooze.

Working with mom at her desk.

Kennedy enjoys staring at the dots on her diaper basket.

The baby shelf.  I am sure it will get worse.

Today however, Kennedy decided she was going to be a fuss-bucket.  She has tummy issues which make for some tough sleeping at night (well early morning) sometimes.  So, I am working from home today, it is proving to be just as easy to work at home when I am doing things that do not require use of the office facility.  We'll be back in the office tomorrow though.
